YouTube has no download button for desktop outside YouTube Premium, and Premium downloads only play inside the YouTube app. If you want a real video file on your PC — to edit, archive, or watch offline in any player — you need a downloader.
Why quality gets lost
This trips up most people. Above 1080p, YouTube stores video and audio as separate streams. Browser extensions and web-based “downloaders” usually grab only the combined stream, which caps out at 720p or 1080p. That is why a video you know is 4K comes out blurry.
To get true 4K or 8K, the downloader has to fetch both streams and merge them with FFmpeg. Any tool that does this properly will offer you resolutions above 1080p; if the list stops at 1080p, it is not merging.
Download a single video
- Copy the video URL from your browser’s address bar.

Choose an audio-only format in the quality list. For music, pick the highest bitrate offered rather than converting down from video — converting a video’s audio track a second time loses quality for no benefit.
Age-restricted and members-only videos
These require a logged-in session. In the app, pick your browser from the Login Cookies dropdown and it reuses the session you already have there. If you are not logged in to that account in that browser, the video stays unavailable — no tool can get around that, and none should.

Why is my download only 720p?

Can I download private videos?
Only ones your own account can already watch, by reusing your browser session. You cannot access videos you have no right to see.
Does downloading count as a view?
No. Downloading does not register as a view or support the creator. If you value the channel, watch and engage on the platform too.
